As
the title of this page suggests, this is a place I'll post . . .
well, whatever! Sometimes I find prayers, meditations,
observations, or images I really like and will share them here
-- that kind of thing.
You'll find that I don't subscribe to or promote any
particular formal religious structure. For one thing, I come
from a family with varied religious backgrounds and, for
another, it seems to me that most of the organized religions
have the same fundamental tenets at their cores. So you might
see a little bit of anything on this page.
I
hope you enjoy your visits here!

Do
not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush.
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight.
I am in the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry --
I am not there. I do not die.
Mary Elizabeth Frye,
1932

Death
is nothing at all.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
I am I and you are you;
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you for an interval,
Somewhere very near, just around the corner.
All is well.

Henry Scott-Holland, 1847-1918, Canon of St. Pauls Cathedral

I
am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white
sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean.
She
is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until
at length
she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky
come
to mingle with each other.
Then,
someone at my side says;
"There, she is gone!"
"Gone
where?"
Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast
and hull and
spar as she was when she left my side and she is just as able
to bear her
load of living freight to her destined port. Her diminished size
is in me, not in her.
And
just at the moment when someone at my side says, "There,
she is gone!"
there are other eyes watching her coming,
and
other voices ready to take up the glad shout;
"Here she comes!"
And
that is dying.

Van Dyke, 19th Century clergyman, educator, poet, and religious
writer

Youth
is not a time of life, it's a state of mind .
It's the freshness from the deep springs of life,
and the idea that every day God is saying to you,
"May I have this dance?"

I
believe prayer is sending out vibrations
from one person to another and to God.
All the universe is in vibration.

When
you arise in the morning,
give thanks for the morning light,
for your life and strength.
Give thanks for your food
and the joy of living.
If you see no reason for giving thanks,
the fault is in yourself.

Take
time to think ...
It is the source of power.
Take time to play ...
It is the secret of perpetual youth.
Take time to laugh ...
It is the music of the soul.
Take time to pray ...
It is the greatest power on Earth.

Deep
peace of the running waves to you,
Deep peace of the flowing air to you,
Deep peace of the quiet earth to you,
Deep peace of the shining stars to you,
Deep peace of the shades of night to you,
Moon and stars always giving light to you.
